When Jenny and Wilfried moved to Goucestershire in 1999 there was no aphasia support in the community. They decided to start a self-help group. With the help of Prof Chris Code, Speakability's regional advisor, Gloucestershire's speech and language therapy department, and supported by a small group of aphasic people, 'Glos-Speak' was founded in December 2000. We are a friendly and supportive group of aphasic people, and anyone who is aphasic is welcome. Speakability do not allow us to accomodate other types of communication problems. If in doubt ask your SaLT or GP. When do we meet?First Tuesday of each month from 2-4pm. Where do we meet? St George's Church Hall, Tuffley, Grange Road, GL4 0PE. For a map click the link:
How to get there on public transport: Bus 92 or 93 from Stroud to Tuffley Lane, Tuffley (get off at "Esso"). From Cheltenham & Gloucester take bus no. 10 to Grange Road, Tuffley.
Members pay £20/year towards costs, such as rent, teas, postage, website & visiting guest artists
The group enjoys Activities and Outings, such as sailing, art classes, BBQ's, theatre visits, GYM membership (Stroud), canal cruises, 10-pin bowling, visiting places, Christmas lunch and more
